Nicholas Conservatory is a wonderful place to visit, even if you don't go inside the conservatory itself. We spent time exploring the outdoor grounds, and the waterfalls, ponds, and gardens were absolutely beautiful. The kids especially loved watching the koi fishβsome of them are huge! The rose gardens were a highlight as well, with plenty of colorful blooms to admire and smell. We also toured the conservatory, and the collection of tropical plants was impressive. It's a great opportunity to see plants and flowers you wouldn't normally encounter in Illinois. One thing parents of young children should be aware of: many of the outdoor and indoor ponds and water features have little to no fencing or barriers, so you'll want to keep a close eye on little ones. Overall, this is a peaceful and beautiful destination that's definitely worth a stop if you're visiting Rockford.

The Secret Life of Butterflies was awesome! My grandkids who are 3.5 years old loved it and they got to hold butterflies on their own with the provided stick. It was awesome and a great Conservatory too. The Koi fish were beautiful and added to the relaxing atmosphere.
